Feira de São Cristovao

Music and dance in Brazil are very important aspects of the country culture. Forró is the most popular music genre and dance originated in the Northeastern Brazil, a part of the history of the country that existed for more than 60 years.

Forró encompasses various dance styles as well as a number of different musical beats and it encloses two opposite aspects of brazilian lifestyle, the “saudade” and the “alegria”

The “ Feira de Sao Cristovao ” is a very popular place in Rio de Janeiro, a centre of traditional northeastern culture, in which a Forró fair takes place every week end, during the all day and night. The Saint Cristopher fair receives the most traditional and oldest Forró bands. Thousand people go there every saturday and sunday, mostly families, old and less well-to-do people,  for dancing and enjoying the music. Since the majority of people is old, their style is the real northeast style and the atmosphere is ancient bringing the viewer into a distant era.
